Sadaf Manoushan

Welcome to my professional Art Portfolio

My name is Sadaf Manoushan, a Persian-American Illustrator. Persian art has strongly influenced and impressed my style and technique, particularly Persian miniature and calligraphy. Being a multicultural artist has created a high tendency in me to reflect my personality into my artworks. Mixing the Western’s illustration techniques and styles with the beauty of Persian art has opened a new horizon where my artistic voice can flourish, launching my creative path on a new journey.

Following my motto of “Art is a movement from the known to the unknown,” and due to my interest, I move from what I know in the aspect of techniques towards whatever is unknown and mysterious at the endless horizon of art.
My illustrations are a combination of mixed media works that involve gouache, watercolor, and digital painting. Smooth and curved lines and bright colors are essential aspects of my work for each illustration to have a profound and compelling presence.

The way I approach making an illustration is a hybrid technique. I start with a traditional medium, like gouache, which provides me a rich palette of options. After this step, I add some digital painting touches and effects to make my illustration complete. The computer can link all mediums together and becomes another tool to invent exciting visual possibilities. This allows me to explore different avenues for the work and develop other ways in the road as the piece is developing. The outcome inevitably happens by choice, chance, and circumstance. As the artist doing the work, the unpredictability and potential sense of discovery is fascinating. They are one of the main reasons to identify where I want to go with my work and what I want to express to the viewer.
